Benedikt loses his beard for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

Speechmatics have been busy fundraising for our charity of the year, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT), and have so far raised an impressive £1,032 for the charity from just one event. Last month, CEO of Speechmatics, Benedikt von Thüngen kindly offered to shave his beard for the charity, but with a twist… A voting system was proposed whereby those that donated were able to vote on the beard that Benedikt would burden for a two-week duration.

Beard choices ranged from a horseshoe beard to a batstache and a more generous offer of a clean shave. By popular demand and with a staggering 39% of the votes, we settled on a ‘monkey tail’ beard. For those that don’t know what that is, take a look at Benedikt modelling the style below.

We arranged for Mr Barbers to come to our offices to perform the great shave and briefed the style in with Sam our barber for the day, whom believe it or not, had never shaved this style before… We’d like to take this time to say a massive thank you to Sam and Mr Barbers for not only being fantastic sports and doing a great job on the shave but also giving their time for the afternoon as well as throwing some money into the pot as a donation. Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust believes that every patient deserves the best possible care. Their aim is to support cutting-edge technology, additional specialist services, vital research and extra comforts for patients over and above NHS funding. Speechmatics will continue to fundraise for ACT throughout the year through our JustGiving page. You can donate here. #SpeechmACTics Ben Leaman, Speechmatics
